Calling all Texas social workers, mental health providers, teachers, and any Texans who claims the title of LGBTQ+ Ally: It is time to act. Join us for this 1.5 hr Ethics webinar where we will discuss anti-LGBTQ+ legislation moving through this session, with specific focus on SB 14, a bill which would effectively criminalize gender affirming medical care for transgender youth, and we will help you learn how to navigate and utilize tools/resources to advocate for Texas trans youth and the LGBTQ+ community.Â
Every licensed profession which involves the care and wellbeing of others has ethical guidelines relating to the character of the professional as well as mistreatment or endangerment of those for whom they provide service/care. For social workers there is also an entire section in the code of ethics dedicated to social and political action. This webinar will help you connect the dots in understanding why your action, or inaction, now can impact your ability to provide a safe space for trans youth and LGBTQ+ people in general. You will leave this webinar having already taken meaningful action!
Participants will:
Be able to communicate the basics of how the legislative process works
Be able to discuss the impact of anti-LGBTQ+ legislationÂ
Be able to articulate the connection between specific legislation (SB 14) and their profession
Be able to compose a statement which can be used to contact state legislators
Be able to execute the action of calling their state representative.
