1 Continuing Education hour Facilitated by: Ashley Heidebrecht, LMSW Youth Empowerment through Self-Advocacy For therapy, mental health, and social service professionals, working with children and adolescents brings unique challenges including disruptive and defiant behaviors, complex family dynamics, schools systems, and the foster care systems, to name a few. But, working with children and adolescents also brings an amazing opportunity to create an alliance with those young people that can dramatically impact their trajectory for the better. Objectives: · Identify the ways in which youth clients' voice are diminished during treatment/service provision. · Examine specific interventions for developing self-advocacy skills · Recognize the positive impact self-advocacy skills have on life trajectory
