About

3 hours How much do you know about the disability rights movement? Have you ever made assumptions about someone's abilities based on their disability? How pervasive is stigma related to disability? In this training we will explore these and other questions as we examine the history of the disability rights movement, the pervasive stigma and social narratives that continue to impact individuals with disabilities, and the essential role we can all play in changing things for the better. Participants will explore the milestones and challenges of the disability rights movement, examine the various forms of stigma and their effects on the lives of people with disabilities, and learn actionable strategies for becoming effective allies. Participants will: Explore key milestones and influential figures in the disability rights movement. Articulate the relationship between historical events and present day stigma, bias and discrimination Examine different types of stigma, including social, institutional, and internalized stigma. Analyze the impact of negative social narratives on the lives of individuals with disabilities. Identify opportunities for continued education and advocacy in disability rights.
