I really appreciated the Jay Smooth Ted Talk. I think his framing was really helpful. I have been thinking a lot about how it is the job of white people to bring other white people along on this journey. Ashley said it in one of her videos and I've heard this sentiment more frequently in the workshops and webinars I've attended in the last few weeks. This feels a bit intimidating, like a really insurmountable task, but it's our job to invite in the people in the spaces we occupy to this work. In a workshop last week, the facilitator (a white woman) said that she didn't want to be the reason that a white person stopped doing this work and never wanted to talk to these things ever gain. But like Jay said, separating the person from the action, and doing your best to tactfully point out that someone has something racist in their teeth in away people will be receptive to is imperative.
