This section in particular really drove home not only life concepts but how to begin to be a better ally. Being white, being called out as having a racist thought - or saying excuse me I'm going to say something that might be a little racist makes, at least me, feel like dirt - or below the dirt. I hate having these thoughts or saying something that might be wrong. Knowing that's it inherent of just upbringing - the concept that racism is not backed by any truths other than an ends to a means to inflict injustice on non-white humans. And that it's going to happen, but don't lash out and start saying - but I'm not racist, I'm a good person. Treat it like you would a hair out of place, or something in your teeth. Fix it and move on.
Also the concepts of sharing stories to get to find common ground. It's something I used to do a lot but now in this reactionary time, I let it fall by the wayside. Something to consider using again. Cause if we all just yell at each other - will anyone want to hear?
