I really appreciated learning about the idea of white shame. I have noticed that this was the sensation I began to feel once I started opening my eyes to all of the damage that white supremacy has caused. Throughout this recent evolution of the BLM movement I have had a difficult time noticing how I should best be responding to my white shame, particularly in conversations with POC. I want to be open about acknowledging the damage that white supremacy has caused without forcing others to feel they are needing to manage my white shame. In regards to this movement, I never know if I should be checking in or initiating conversations about race with POC, as I don't what them to feel they are responsible for easing my white shame, but I also don't want to avoid them because they are uncomfortable and make them to feel responsible for having to initiate these conversations themselves.
