I’m definitely convicted and feel prompted to take a step back and think about my motivations for doing anti racism work. As a white social worker who's been reading black literature and going to the marches, I’d love to think that I’m “one of the good ones”. so I’m thankful for this segment because I need to check my ego and make sure the drive is purely to make changes, not to make myself feel better.
I am a white woman with western european and middle eastern roots. I work in a pubic library; one of my roles is to faciltate language learning programs for internationals. Having a better understanding of the roots of racism in this country helps me to understand why these programs are especially important. This work has helped me to see how white-centric our society is and to have a greater appreciation for all cultures. I hope that you will continue to feel good about your work, as it serves to bring "liberty and justice for ALL" and not just for white people.
