equity and diversity is important for the first stage of allyship which is being indifferent. We prefer and seek out the company and perspectives of people with whom we feel more comfortable. We have to educate ourselves of the intention and listen to and validate other people's lived experiences in order to develop humility. If you actively seek to change, you will "make mistakes" and come against some uncomfortable truths about ourselves as well as our deeply held views, and habits that may have held for years if not decades. If you proactively stand up and advocate for change it will happen but you cannot lose hope.
