One of the video participants explained precisely how white exceptionalism happens in my personal life. Because I am brown and have friends of all colors and nationalities, with whom I get along very well and respect. I feel I have done my work. I have adopted a level of complacency that has not forced me to speak further on their behalves. Being Anti-racist is the ability to be actively involved in these kinds of conversations. To challenge others and, at the same time, to listen and understand.
As a performing artist (dancer), I have traveled the world and have always been fascinated with people, dance, and cultures. Tasting every flavor and corner of a culture I come in contact brings me joy, but that is not enough, that doesn't mean I am doing my work as an ally. I am not speaking of their realities and supporting the fixing of their misfortunes. I can do better; I must do better.
