I believe I currently exist somewhere between active and advocate, and I think I move between them depending on the situation, the environment I am in (ex home vs work), as well my own place in that situation or environment. I do consistently and proactively champion inclusion in as many processes I am involved it including hiring, promoting, recognition, committee placement, and other work situations. Where students are involved I actively work with students of color to challenge inequities in many different areas (registration, financial aid, support form faculty and administration, confronting bias incidents, etc.
I am constantly learning and challenging myself and my staff to check their privilege and move toward advocacy, understanding that it is a constant process and ever evolving change for all of us.
