I read or heard someone say "You don't get to call yourself an ally." Essentially you have to earn that label from the people you are "helping" or uplifting. Since then, I stopped calling myself an anti-racist white ally. I fall somewhere between Active and Advocate on the continuum. I am not in mixed-race situations very often so I don't have many opportunities to center Black voices. I feel stuck in this spot based on my environment. But maybe that's just white privilege talking.
