I can't recall a time when I thought I was 'one of the good ones'. There is always work that can be done. Any time someone tells me that I have been harmful in behavior I take corrective actions immediately. In moments of feeling guilt I look into lasting and effective solutions. Small consistent actions lead to large permeant impact.
I have felt "I am one of the good ones" or "I am not racist", but the more I learn, the more I see the subtle ways in which I take the easy way out (avoid confrontation, like calling out a family member for a racist comment, for example). I find it helpful to acknowledge that conversation about race are uncomfortable. And that it is ok...in fact necessary, to move into that discomfort.
