I feel that this Anti-Racist training is only the tip of the iceberg. I have so much more to learn and experience in order to become a better Ally and ultimately an Advocate.
The videos I just watched have given me the motivation and some great tools to help continue my Anti-Racist journey.
Quite = Comfortable. (maintaining the status quo)
I need to start getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.
LISTEN & UNDERSTAND
Don't minimize or invalidate one's experiences
Check your EGO, this isn't about YOU
Colorblindness = makes us feel better about ignoring racism
blind to color is to be blind to consequences
We are not perfect and we have implicit bias'
being good is a constant practice we carry out by engaging our imperfections
I will need to constantly check myself and remind myself of the bulleted points above. I now realize this journey will never end and there will always be something new to learn. But I feel very fortunate to have started this process, even though I still feel guilty that is took me this long to truly see the Racism that is deeply embedded in this Country.
