I feel that I am in the Awareness stage of the Allyship Continuum. This is my first time participating in any type of Anti-Racism training or meaningful conversation/reflection. I want to be able to go to demonstrations and protests, but I am also scared. I'm scared for my own safety from those who don't like Persons of Color exerting their rights. I know that is a "privileged" thing to say. And I know that by not participating in demonstrations and protests due to fear is giving those folks more power. I need to figure out how to start having conversations with my friends, neighbors, colleagues about race and racism so that I can move to the Action phase and eventually become a true Ally and Advocate. I realize that this is a life-long learning experience.
