What are your thoughts about white exceptionalism, guilt, and shame? Have you felt that way? Have you been driven by toxic white guilt?
You can tell that this is definitely geared towards Americans, as some of these things aren't as prevalent here. I know white exceptionalism drives a lot of the foundations of both American and Canadian government in that institutional racism is part of the fabric of the creation of both countries. When I was younger, I did feel some guilt and/or shame for how "we" treated POC's. Since then, I have done a lot of learning. I do not think I have ever been driven by toxic white guilt. I've never tried to silence others when they tell me that I'm wrong in this area. I have always tried to be open and willing to listen.
