White exceptionalism is the idea that as an individual there is nothing more for me to learn and nothing more I can do to be anti-racist. The presence and power of racism in our world, however, makes this an impossibility. The fact that it is here shows that there is more we can do to help combat it. Merely being non-racist is not enough. If racism is something we oppose, then we must actively and continually oppose it; we must look for new ways to fight it; and we must strive to grow and learn more about it. If we don't examine ourselves and look for where it might be hiding in our own belief systems, we will allow it to grow.
