I like the idea of sharing My Story and getting Their Story then using that as a tool to find common ground... but I am having trouble identifying stories from within my own life that would tie into discussions of race.
I have not been followed in a store because of my race or passed over for jobs because of my name. Tom Reitz references his experience in foster care where he saw first-hand the difference in his experience versus his POC peers but I'm struggling to find examples of the same within my experience that aren't simply retelling a POC friend's story.
What lived experiences do white people have that can tie into these discussions? How is that connection drawn? Do I draw from my experiences as a woman hearing sexist comments and enduring harassment? That feels...off-topic.
