What thoughts did you have while watching the videos focusing on how to engage others?
I found it rather interesting that a key element that was highlighted throughout the videos was that of "building connections". Through sharing/learning/and combining our stories and through being comfortable with being uncomfortable we are able to build stronger connections that help shape the narrative of race in a progressive fashion. One that allows us to build common ground, come together and take action.
Thank you, Karl. I believe that we heal in community. Through authentic connection, we are able to share in a reciprocal fashion, both talking and really listening. Through the authentic connection, we can begin to do the work of transforming systemic racism, and basically anything else. Unfortunately, our society is designed for convenience, quick "fixes" and skimming the surface. Simply having someone try to engage in an authentic connection with another is rare. The more we keep trying, the more likely we can grow fertile ground for transformation.
