I think it is important to give people a chance to learn and make mistakes. we can't cut people off due to problematic thinking, or else learning will never be embraced. I am ready to take on conversations of racism, diversity, etc. its one of my favorite topic, I believe in it, and I have enjoyed the thorough handouts that facilitate those conversations. the videos have all been informative and Its something I believe I can reference at any given time.
I was in an anti-racism group last February, and I accidentally said something that offended someone. I really honestly didn't mean any harm, and it wasn't until the words were out of my mouth that I realized they were offensive. The person of color later came to me and accused me of being a racist. She was probably right, which is the reason that I had wanted to participate in the group in the first place to identify my biases and replace them with more positive thinking. She threatened to go to my boss, and I'm sure she would have it Corona hadn't broken out, and I could have been fired for being a racism.
Now I'm really scared of speaking about this topic, and I'm scared of asking questions.
