The Anti-Racism Training is one of two trainings I've participated in this past month, in preparation of initiating conversations about race in my community. It will be relatively easy to do this in my work setting. I work for a university campus that upholds that Black Lives Matter, and that has a diverse community of students across race and socio-economic status whom we support. Continuing this conversation in the FilipinX community I belong to, with family members who are firmly entrenched in colonial mentality and who aspire to be as proximate to whiteness as possible will be challenging but absolutely necessary. I'm of the belief that the freedom from stigma and dehumanization of the people group I identify with is inextricably tied to the same freedom for Black folks.
There is much work to do.
