Hi, my name is Mike. I've always identified with Black people, coming from a place of sharing a feeling of oppression. I'm Jewish, and growing up, I felt oppressed by life in general. At home with a overbearing, highly critical father, in school, struggling with issues of eyesight and misunderstanding etc. So, I automatically feel that because I've struggled, I don't have issues with racism. This has to be wrong because I've still grown up with privilege because I'm White. So I must approach becoming an anti-racist ally with compassion for myself, letting go of guilt for not being perfect, and being open to understanding and conversation with people, and coming from a place of judgement for either myself or people I'm working with around this issue.
