After thinking about where I was on the Ally Continuum, I realized that I most likely fall into the category of Active Ally. I used to be more passive before all of the horrible murders of Black people became prominent, in the U.S. (and now across the world). I regret my previous inaction on racial justice issues. I personally belong to a lower income bracket than many other white people, so I guess I used to think along the lines that I couldn't do much to fight against racism. But, I know I can do more now, such as amplifying the voices of the BIPOC community when there is injustice from the police and/or government officials, or actively letting people know why racial jokes are hurtful to others and that they should stop making these kinds of jokes or insults. Individually, no one person can totally eradicate racism, but we all must do our part to get rid of racism and structural racism in our society.
