I would say that today I sit squarely on the "Active" rung of the ladder. In addition to this training, I have been spending a great deal of time on the internet witnessing acts of brutality against BIPOC at the hands of the police. I have listened to Black Lives Matter activists as they have expressed their anger, grief, and frustration with the status quo. I have participated in month equity/diversity/inclusion meetings at my place of work. I have called Black friends and asked how they are doing and actively listened to them without feeling the need to make everything better for them. I have called out FB friends when I feel they are acting from a place of white privilege. I continue to be curious about both the lived experience of BIPOC and my own implicit biases. I feel motivated to listen more and learn more. I hope to soon consider myself in the role of Advocate, but am not sure I'm quite there yet.
