I really want to say that I'm an advocate, but the reality is that I'm at the level of awareness. However, I do strongly feel like I'm going to use this awareness to do what I can to become more active. I'm a teacher and I am now constantly thinking about how my words and actions in my classroom have been unintentionally racist or non-racist in the past and how I would act differently now. I am going to use this summer to plan how to make sure my lessons are more inclusive and I'm in conversation with another teacher about forming some kind of antiracist student club. I've also joined an antiracist book club, and we are actively educating ourselves on this history of racism and how we, as white women, can take concrete action. However, through all of these activities I want to be intentional about not being a white savior. Simply learning about all of these subjects has been so eye-opening to me.
