I would say I am an Advocate with room for improvement. I manage a children's bookmobile with a pretty diverse population. Seven years ago, when I took over the bookmobile, the existing collection was a mirror for white kids. I have worked hard in building that collection to meet the needs of all the kids I see because I think it's not only important for POC to see themselves in books but also important for the white kids to read these books as well. Because I feel so strongly about BLM, the hardest thing for me right now is to keep the emotions out of my conversations and just to approach the conversation with facts. It's difficult because so many people (mainly my relatives) immediately get defensive and throw out the "all lives matter" argument and they won't even try to listen to reason.
