I am writing this post on June 11 just after watching the race discussion videos from Module 2 which were viewed through the YouTube system. But I was too angry to get much out of it! An independent book store in CA called Book Passage has been hosting author talks for the last couple months. Yesterday they had scheduled something different—a panel discussion on the topic of Racism in America. Just prior to the start YouTube pulled the video off screen with no warning and put the following message on screen: This video has been removed for violation of YouTube’s terms of service. They have not given Book Passage or the panelists or the thousands of us who had signed up for it any further explanation!! They couldn’t have objected to the content because it hadn’t happened yet. They only knew the topic was Racism. Since this is the whole topic of your workshop and you use YouTube, I thought you should know about this and try to do something about it—if we are serious about anti-racism, we need to act when we can and stand in solidarity with others trying to work on the same issue.
