I felt the Ted talk was so eye-opening. What you see determines what you want to hear. The fact that she was lighter skin with not recognizable Native features allowed for the conversation to be heard. Her narrative was so clear and so touching. When she mentioned that if it were someone with more 'Native' prominent features, things would be different. And I went, wow, you are right. So much work to be done, I have to dig deep into my light Hispanic privilege skin (Puerto Rican) and dig deep into what and who brought me to feel and think this way.
I am hopeful and excited to peel the layers of the polluted white system I live in.
