In watching the videos with various people talking about race, I realized that I have never thought through hardly any of the issues that were brought up by the people in the videos. I am white and don't have a lot of ties to racial or even specific cultural heritage.
In my reflection on my own identity, it's hard for me to admit that a lot of my racial identity is built on internalized privilege. For example, I know that part of my identity is my confidence. Some of this confidence is easy for white persons to have because they are used to going where they want, buying what they want, living where they want, etc., which means that a system is built where they feel they can achieve anything they set their minds to. That's just one example of how I'm starting to deconstruct how my whiteness and white privilege has impacted my identity.
