Growing up, I never thought I benefitted from white privilege. It just didn't occur to me. I had friends, most of whom were white, but I think that was largely because there weren't many African Americans in my community (San Fernando Valley of Southern California). There were several Asian families, and one or two Native families, but not many African American families. When I went to college, I was exposed to a more diverse mix of students and community members. I believe my white privilege was a large factor in my attending good public schools and in my ability to go to a good university.
