What are your thoughts about the concept of white culture, identity, and entitlement as they were discussed? What are your thoughts about the concept of white privilege?
I found it interesting that in one of the segments it was discussed of their being a lack of culture in being white. I know I've heard the opposite, the concept of the dominant culture being the culture. eg. everything that surrounds us is White culture. So it was interesting to hear a different perspective.
Another concept that was presented, that I found interesting is that of our traditions, as members of different cultures/being a person of color - which provides us something dear, it is a part of us. As a first generation, I did not hear this concept much as my parents [with all good intentions] tried to assimilate me into a culture unknown and outside of their own.
White Privilege can be found in many societies, and you can also find it within diverse communities [eg. light-skin latinx individual vs dark-skin]. I had heard this concept before, but the module really helped me to understand the elements of privilege that are presented in my own identities that are outside main-stream culture.
