As a white woman I have always considered the idea of race and culture, as having nothing to do with me. In college I had to write an identity paper for my diversity class, and I remember my professor saying that I just wrote something that I thought she wanted to hear. She was completely correct I had no idea what culture had to do with my being white.
Needless to say I had to rewrite the paper and I honestly do not remember what I had written. She told me my racial identity was a work in progress, and it still is.
I watched the white people video first and found that many of them started out by saying that they didn't know either. It just makes me feel conflicted /confused inside about how our country has created a "non-cultured race," so to speak. White people are the majority and clumped all together into one group that it is confusing to try and associate the cultural aspects that I had previously only associated with POC, with myself.
My racial identity is still a work in progress.
