As the narrator stated white entitlement can be seen everywhere in America right now because of COVID19, with groups of people outraged by having to wear a mask. It is funny because I didn't think of this situation as white entitlement but, now I see how it is a perfect example of that. That once someone tries to infringe upon the rights of being white then it is a problem. But, these same individuals are not outraged by complete oppression that is placed upon all other minority groups?
I feel as though I am seeing many of my life experiences through a different light. I can now see all of the advantages I have had because of my white privilege. And looking back I can also see how I had reacted entitled in some situations. For example when applying for college scholarships, I became very frustrated because there were not many that I qualified for, majority were for minority groups. Little did I know that was because I had already had the privilege of being white.
Knowing what I know now, it is imperative that I utilize my "privilege" and start having uncomfortable conversations with other white individuals. To start challenging the status quo so that things can change. All the while keeping my privilege in check and not having the "white savior" mentality.
