I never had a strong grasp of white privilege. I am white and I am a woman. My skin tone is darker. people are confused of my origin. Sometimes they think I’m Native American. Other times it’s “mixed” (aka black and white). While other times they are just confused and just ask. Most often, those that ask are children- my students. They are searching and hoping to find a teacher just like them. They know I’m married to a dark man. They know I relate to them. They just are hoping to be closer. But I can’t claim I’m not white. I hold a privilege that they want and that is heavy to hold sometimes.
It was just a random reflection through this section.
