I agree who heartily with the speakers, in this module, who spoke of the benefits of white privilege. As a White man, my whiteness is something I never had to think about. I suppose that I could have lived my life (if I had stayed a public school teacher in a rural school in NY State) in a manner that would never had required me to examine the privilege I have because of the color of my skin. But I did not stay in that part of the world. As a result, I now live in a more diverse community. I have come to appreciate the benefits others bring to a conversation who see the world differently than I do. I am struggling to come to terms with the power I have as a white man and how best to lead others (who do not see diversity as a strength) toward equality. This course has helped move me forward and reminded me how much further I have to go!
