I liked that this module brought us to the present and realities of discrimination. I had already taken those IAT tests when I was in teacher prep, and had also seen the eye color video at that time. I have always thought those are great resources for people to notice their own biases, and how bias functions in our world.
I really enjoyed the "conversations with" videos. I think it really shows the difference between how people who are oppressed experience race, versus white people. I think if I asked any of my white friends about race they would be like what the heck? But I have had many conversations with my friends of color about race - their experiences, advocacy, reforms, etc. The white people in the video awkwardly laugh and say they don't know what to say, but the other videos have really emotional and raw stories in such a short period of time. I think it is important for white people to see these videos and understand what the lived experience of POC actually is. The stories are incredibly different and unique, but they all come down to experiencing discrimination, fear, identity conflict, etc.
This brought back memories of being told by my mother when we went in a store to not touch anything because she didn't want it said we were trying to steal something!
