What are your thoughts about the concept of white culture, identity, and entitlement as they were discussed? What are your thoughts about the concept of white privilege?
As a white person, "white culture" to me was always a misnomer. As a collective group, we don't have a culture. My culture comes from my family heritage which is Welsh, Irish, Scottish, British , German and Swedish. White identity seems to be something that is used to divide "us" from "them". Entitlement comes from colonialism, and white being the "default", which is where white privilege comes from as well. I've done a few privilege tests, and they usually say I'm "not privileged" because of certain things. However, I *know* I have inherent privilege because I am white. I may not have as much as some, but I will always be looked at as the default due to my skin tone. I am aware of what privileges I have, and I try to use those to allow POC voices to be heard more clearly.
