I was honestly surprised at my results - I was expecting to have my results show me all the things I didn't want to admit to myself, and was hoping to be more in the middle (not preferring any one over another). Instead, my results showed the opposite - most strongly, I showed preference over darker skinned people over lighter skinned people. And to be honest, I don't think this would have been the result months ago. As I watch so many current events unfold on the news and on social media, the perpetrators are white people! Angry, yelling, bigoted, white people. Today, there's a set of pictures going around of two white people standing with a handgun and a rifle in their front yard, barefoot, threatening peaceful protestors that happened to be walking through their neighborhood. Saturday, I got yelled at in a restaurant by a tall, muscular white man for daring to pick up my order while wearing an ACLU shirt. Video after video of stone-faced white men in uniform harming peaceful protestors. Combined with my increased seeking-out of Black media - of black people living their lives, being just as human as I am, sharing their stories and their perspectives from a place that I will never truly understand - their resiliency is beautiful.
