Watching the videos about the Black women and boys/men definitely hit home for me but, it was the Growing up Black video with the young men that really got me emotional. This is because I'm a mother to two young Black boys and given the climate of the world right now, and the fact that we live in a suburb with white people, my oldest son is in school with white children, I have to have some hard conversations with him; and he's only 10 years old. Like the one boy mentioned how his father did not want him to walk around in fear but to know what's going on, that's exactly how I want my sons to be. I don't want them to be afraid every time they leave the house but I do want them to be more conscious and aware of the world we live in.
Watching the video of Latinos surprised me because I never knew they had the same inter-racial issues that we as Black people have as far as darker skin vs. lighter skin. Just to hear them talk about how they wanted to be white, or anything but Latino, or how it was hard to identify who they are because they were Afro-Latino so they didn't fit in all the way with other Latinos and they didn't fit in all the way with other Blacks.
