I can't get over how quickly the students turned on each other, even when the brown eyes became the "superior" group. I would have thought they would have had more sympathy for the blue eyed students having just experienced what it felt like. I was also surprised they would continue to go along with the experiment or that one of the students didn't refuse to participate, but then I realized that they were probably conditioned to follow teacher's directions and not question it. But, overall, it made me realize just how young bias amongest children starts and how easily influenced they are. Educators must always keep in mind how powerful the things they say and do are and therefore they must constantly be reflecting on how they are using that power.
Hi Deborah,
I felt the same as you. I was also really shocked how quickly they believed the teacher, even when she said they were trying something. I am an educator so reflect a great deal on what I say and how I explain things, but it does remind me of how impressionable students are and that I need to keep that in mind.
