I always have viewed police as heros... and many are. First responders who organize situations and care for people in need. I had never thought of the history of policing. As with many things, time has moved on and our practice has not. I think of other professions like doctors. If my doctor told me they were going to use a method founded in the 1600s I would have a question about that. What does Law and Order look like in 2020? Clearly the status quo isn't working. Teaching is always shifting and adapting. We need to help others, and call them out when things don't sound or feel equitable. Uncomfortable conversations will lead to the needed change.
