Maybe we will get to this later in the training, but what is a good way to ask someone about their race or ethnicity without being racist or sounding like I am assuming they're not from America just because they look latino, asian, etc.? I understand now how we are displaying microagression when we say "where are you from?" to someone who isn't white because it can make that person feel like they aren't from American because of how they look. Honestly though, I am just really bad at identifying race or ethnicity by looking at someone. What can I do to find out someone's cultural background without making them feel like I don't think they "belong" here because of the way they look? Thanks for the feedback!
