I live in Cameroon and i have never been to America. Most of us here grew up with huge ambition to "study abroad" mainly in America. Living in America was and is still such a fabulous dream for many young African. I have been denied visa on two counts simply because "as the officials say, i can not show prove that i have enough interest in Cameroon that will force me back to my country after my stay in the US. This sure is a precautionary measures based on a few cases but which has been generalized as being the motive of all young Africans asking for a short-stay visa to America. They say the issue is my economy back home is not solid enough. I have a wife and three kids who are not traveling with me. Why would the embassy officials consider my financial ability back here being more important factor that will bring me back than my wife and kids?
After listening to various speakers in this model, i can understand even deeper now what they go through with the color of the skin they wear.
This is really not fair and it keeps us all afraid of each other. We need to work hand in hand to deconstruct racism for every one to be free. I do not think American white people are free of guilt due to their institutional entitlement and privileges. Lets all set each other free.
