Two things this seemed to perpetuate or instigate was 1. Kids becoming what they told they were. Dumber, more wasteful, less important or special. 2. kids actually started to view others as lesser just based on what they were told. Too many americans hear someone say "you're special, those others are not" and it becomes a real thing to them. It becomes true. Forty years later they're a closet nazi or oblivious to the roots of their ideals in hatred. they can't see it anymore, it's just all they've ever known. The idea of trying to teach an old dog new tricks comes to mind. How can you engage someone who's been having the same thoughts building up over the years to help them see where it all started and it's based on lies? It's a good thing to try in the classroom to open minds and prove a point before it's too late. but also weird that it was just a room full of white kids. How else are these kids exposed to other cultures?
