It was interesting and shocking to watch the 'Blue Eyes v. Brown Eyes' experiment that the teacher in Iowa, in 1968, ran amongst her students. Something like that would never be allowed to go on in a classroom in this day and age. While I am younger, I am very close to people who are in their 60's and 70's (y/o), and I realize that times were simpler then. The schools were not even federalized until the Carter administration. Thankfully, due to our society globalizing, we are now able to recognize racism regardless of which area in the country that we live in. For rural Iowa, at that time, the teacher must have been very awakened to racial issues to give such a lesson to her students. I'm glad that we have such an example like that experiment. It helps people realize that racism essentially starts from constructs that we make. It helps people realize that it is very difficult for all of us to recognize our unconscious biases.
