As I reflect on my own racial identity, it is evident when I started thinking about the color of my skin. It was not from a young age and for a long time it still wasn't even an everyday thought. I remember going from an all white Catholic school to the public high school. My high school was pretty evenly divided black and white. It was during these years that I noticed the demographic issue in the classes (honors, ap, regular). It was here that I started noticed white kids "acting black" & black kids being "not really black" or "barely black." I remember the group of latino group of students that banded together. I noticed all of this things but I didn't think much of anything about it. I do now.
