Feel that this showed me that "racism , bias, discrimination, etc. is taught and learned. People aren't born feeling a certain way but rather act the way they do being around those that they are around. A child is not born with attitudes and viewpoints towards someone, but rather pick up on them from their parents.
I agree. We're taught racism. No child comes out of the womb saying, "Those people are lesser/wrong/strange," etc.
As a teacher I see that children's thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors mirror what they are taught by their parents. However, as they grow up and are exposed to more over time their thoughts, attitudes and behaviors tend to change. I definitely felt that way when I went to college and experienced being around people of different backgrounds.
I was shocked by my results:
Skin Tone IAT: “Your responses suggested a moderate automatic preference for Dark Skinned People over Light Skinned People”.
Race IAT: “Your responses suggested a slight automatic preference for Black People over White People”.
Native IAT: “Your responses suggested a moderate automatic association for American with Native American and Foreign with White American”.
Asian IAT: “Your responses suggested little to no automatic association between American and Foreign with Asian American and European American”.
I am not upset, I just thought I had more biased towards yt people and was surprised that I didn’t have as much.
