I have knowledge of many of the topics covered by the videos, but to see them piled one upon the other felt like a huge weight piled up on my soul. And none of this happened to me, with the minor exception that Slavs were for a time considered a separate race. I felt in my heart sorrow for those who have and continue to suffer the effects of racism. History has been so distorted by whiteness. Even the Enlightment, held up as the dawn of reason, was rife with racism, using science to make other races, particularly black Africans, as less intellectual and physically predisposed to physical work, to justify slavery.
Even now, in my home area, all of the white immigrants moved out of the industrial towns to the suburbs. "leaving" those communities to Blacks znd Hispanics, promptly making those folks somehow deserving of living in these terribly polluted environments, and freaking out if a person of another race appears in their neighborhood.
My heart breaks for Native Americans. We stole their land, their way of life, and their future by stealing their children. The trauma continues as the Navajo tribe has lost an equal number of members to COVID as the total deaths in seven states.
I am angry and committed to working on my own racism even as I work to be an anti-racist. I have the luxury of being able to turn away. I cannot. Once you have learned, you cannot unlearn.
Well said!!!
