I do think that all past events, rules, and laws impact our society today-not just in an institutional setting but in ideology as well. After watching these videos, I'm upset and angry but also inspired to do more and encourage the US society and government to acknowledge the disgusting inhumane past and the current reality of 2020. Often times, I feel like individuals think racism and racism policies aren't real because it's not racism as we think of it (i.e. slavery and concentration camps), but the reality is that we are in the modern day and our societies racism looks differently and is called 'pretty' names to justify their actions, such as prisons (the new slavery), detention camps (concentration camps), and media representation of individuals (caricatures/stereotypes). It has been interesting to see how all generations especially the younger one has said 'no more' and have demanded change AND action from mass influencers. I'm excited for the future but I also recognize their is a sense of performative allies and doing the bare minimum because change is scary.
