As I watched these videos, I kept reflecting on the intentionality behind keeping these stories out of mainstream education. Quickly followed by my awareness that I also never went to the trouble of looking for them myself. As a white woman, I have (for more years than is acceptable) been comfortable with my head being stuck in the sand, blissfully unaware of these grave injustices, and the insidious nature of them. I carry a lot of shame about that, but I refuse to let that discomfort paralyze me into continued ignorance. In challenging myself to use my voice, I intend to take the actionable step of sharing these videos with others with the hope that knowing better is the first step to doing better.
