Watching the video on the Jim Crow Museum was really hard for me. To see how creating and promoting racist caricatures was a whole industry in itself, and how it was so woven into the fabric of our culture was a gut punch. Then to celebrate the Civil Rights Act, but know that though laws have been changed, hearts and minds haven't, because look at how production cranked up when President Obama was elected. I am glad the museum is deliberate about fostering conversation, because listening and sharing stories is the way to make change at a heart and mind level. That helped, but still tough to think how deep biases go.
